Obaugh Funeral Home is dedicated to offering Highland County and the surrounding communities a wide variety of funeral, memorial, and cremation services. It is our goal to ensure each family’s desired service can be provided and to the fullest measure of their expectation. Our services include, but are not limited to, the following:
A traditional service has come to be known as one in which the family desires a prescribed period of visitation and requests that a funeral be conducted from the funeral home’s chapel or a church of choice. Additionally, this type of service generally includes a committal service followed by an earth burial or entombment.
Graveside services are conducted at the location of burial. Very much like a traditional service, a graveside service may include religious rites, scripture readings, eulogies, music, or simply an opportunity to share memories with those in attendance. This option is an ideal choice for families that desire a more intimate service for their loved ones.
Obaugh Funeral Home offers a variety of options for families that desire cremation services. For families that choose cremation, it is important to understand that cremation does not eliminate nor limit means of memorializing a loved one’s life. Families may desire a visitation or funeral service prior to the cremation process. Often, a memorial service following the cremation is requested of the funeral home. A direct cremation (with limited services of the funeral home) might also be the preferred option of the family. Because options are endless when considering cremation, it is important to speak openly with one of our directors to ensure that we meet your desired cremation needs.
An immediate burial is an option available to families that wish to forego formal services or a gathering. The casketed body is interred in a cemetery as soon as possible (typically within 24 hours).
Natural burials, sometimes referred to as green burials, are becoming a popular alternative to cremation and traditional services. A natural burial is an environmental friendly means of disposition which significantly reduces the carbon footprint created by the process of cremation and production of both manufactured caskets and vaults. Natural burials require that the coffin be built from sustainably harvested wood or a biodegradable alternative, the use of nontoxic chemicals should embalming be requested, and a cemetery that meets the criteria for a natural burial. Obaugh Funeral Home can help families to locate such cemeteries within Highland County or facilitate an interment in a cemetery certified by the Green Burial Council. As with cremation there is a wide array of options when considering natural burial, so it is important to speak with one of our directors to ensure that your desired service can be met.
The choice to pre-arrange funeral services can be a difficult one indeed; however, the benefit to those we leave behind is without measure. By making pre-arrangements you remove the burden of decision making upon your loved ones during an already stressful and emotional time in their lives. Often, people simply like to sit down and let their wishes be known, while others may choose to go a step further and pre-fund those services. If you are interested in pre-arrangements, please contact one of our directors and we will set an appointment that meets your schedule.
