William Virgil "Jake" Moats, 72, of Monterey, died Wednesday morning, May 10, 1994 at King's Daughters Hospital.
He was born on April 16, 1922, at Moyers, WV, a son of Dice and Effie (Puffenbarger) Moats.
He was a member of Monterey Presbyterian Church and had worked for the Virginia Department of Transportation for 23 years.
On February 9, 1946, he married Helen Simmons, who survives.
In addition to his widow, surviving are a daughter, Patsy Ann Moats of Monterey; a son, Jerry W. Moats of Monterey; a sister, Gracie Davis of Lyndhurst; a brother, Hubert L. Moats of Richmond; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Monterey Presbyterian Church by the Rev. C. William Cox, with burial at Monterey Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Paul Terry, James Thompson, Francis Finn, William Niswander, Rodger Moyers and Billy Pritt.
Honorary pallbearers will be nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 7-*:30 tonight at Obaugh Funeral Home.
