William Leo Samples, 80, of Monterey, died Wednesday, December 25, 1996 at The Springs Nursing Center, where he had been a patient for nearly two years.
He was born near Monterey on May 1, 1916, a son of William Wesley and Jessie (Jones) Samples.
He was a member of the Seybert Chapel United Methodist Church, then moved to Forks of Waters United Brethren Church. He helped to cut timber and worked on sawmills for several years. In 1950, he began working for Howes Leather Company of Frank, WV, and worked there for 30 years before retiring.
Surviving are his widow, Mable (Gum) Samples; a daughter, Thelma Nesslerodt of Franklin, WV; a sister, Mary Bess Siron of Palmyra; a grandson; and two great-grandsons.
A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Jerry Ginn with burial in Monterey Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be James and Ronnie Gum, Lynn Rexrode and Fred, Anthony and Todd Frye.
Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
