William Floyd Harris, age 77, died Tuesday, January 16, 2007, at his residence in Mechanicsville. He was born July 22, 1929, in Rockbridge County, eldest son of the late Charles Edward and Ruby Robinson (Goodbar) Harris.
Mr. Harris was the owner and operator of a community grocery store in eastern Henrico County. A member of Ginter Park Presbyterian Church, he regularly attended Mechanicsville Advent Christian Church. He was graduated from Brownsburg High School, north of Lexington, in 1947, and attended Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1951. He was a past member of Varina Lions Club.
He is survived by his former wife and lifelong partner, Hallie Hiner Harris of Mechanicsville; four sons, William F. Harris, II, Ph.D, of Montpelier Station; Markley H. Harris of Muskegon, MI; Alan C. Harris, M.D., of Norfolk; and Douglas R. Harris, J.D., of Richmond; five grandchildren, Jennifer Harris, Emily Harris, Alan Craig Harris, Jr., Wesley Harris, and Lucas Harris; a brother, Charles E. Harris, Jr., and a sister, Mary H. Aughenbaugh.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 20, at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell by the Rev. Clinton White and the Rev. Donald Rose. Burial will be in Hamilton Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be friends attending the service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
