Ward Miller Bussard, 82, of Mustoe, died Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at his home. He was born April 20, 1927 in Highland County a son of the late Eutis Ward and Vernie Florence (Miller) Bussard.
Mr. Bussard graduated from Monterey High School in 1945 and was an U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He was a carpenter with DuPont and private contractors in the Richmond area and a foreman at the Bath County Pump Storage. He attended Set Free Mennonite Church. He was an avid beekeeper and sold honey using the honor system at his roadside stand.
Mr. Bussard was preceded in death by a sister, Lenna B. Carroll and a brother, Dale Bussard.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen (Terry) Bussard, whom he married November 27, 1949; a daughter and son-in-law, Crystal B. and Robert S. Andrews of Goochland; a grandson, Matthew Andrews of Goochland; two sisters, Irva Smith and Lennis Lockridge, both of Staunton; a sister-in-law, Thelma Bussard of Bolar and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted 3 p.m., Friday, August 7, 2009 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell by the Pastor Mike Puffenbarger and assisted by Minister Enos Schrock. Burial will be in Big Valley Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Eugene Bussard, Stephen, John and David Terry, Dennis and Mark Layman. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Ailstock, Blane Ruckman, Jim Andrews, Joseph Terry and Sonny Smith. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at Obaugh Funeral Home.
