Walter Eckard

Walter Edwin Eckard, 81, of Sugar Grove, WV, died Monday morning, March 31, 1997 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

He was born August 12, 1915 at Sugar Grove, a son of James Pickney and Mary (Puffenbarger) Eckard.

He was a member of the St. Michael Lutheran Church. He was a logger. He is the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving are his two daughters, Anna Cupp of Mt. Crawford and sons, Everett P. Eckard of Catlett and Edwin R. Eckard of Fredericksburg; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one step-grandson.

A service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Dr. Robert Schmidt, with burial in St. Michael Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Allen Simmons, Butch Puffenbarger, Dale Cornwell-Strader, Junior Lohr, Tom Mitchell and Harold Cupp.

Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 tonight at Obaugh Funeral Home at the funeral home.
