Virginia Catherine (Cobb) Simmons

Virginia Catherine (Cobb) Simmons, 90, of McGaheysville, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, October 1, 2023.

She was born August 15, 1933 in Pendleton County, the daughter of the late Clara Jones (Simmons) Smith.

On December 26, 1950, she married Richard Lee Simmons, who preceded her in death in 2000.

Virginia was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, and grandmother to many. She enjoyed the company of her family and always put them first. She dedicated her life to her family and made sure everyone knew how much she loved them.

She is survived by three sons, William “Bill” Simmons and companion, Heidi Simmons of Broadway; Glenn Simmons and wife, Wanda of Elkton and Sandy Simmons of McGaheysville; two daughters, Vivian Hensley and husband, Garland of McGaheysville; Sandra Roudabush of Elkton; son-in-law, Wayne Eye of Dayton; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her mother and husband, she was preceded in death by son, Richard L. Simmons, Jr.; and daughter, Doris Simmons Eye. The last of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by her seven siblings, Berlin “Sonny” Pinkney, Della Jane, William Roy, Margie Lou, Gilbert Lee, Goldie Elizabeth, and Mary Margaret.

Services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Obaugh Funeral Home with speaker Lee Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Leach Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will receive family and friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, October 6 at the funeral home.
