Virginia Hammer Rexrode, 81, of Franklin, W.Va., died Wednesday, September 13, 2000 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, Va.
She was born July 22, 1919 at Blue Grass, a daughter of Luther and Ester Waybright Hammer.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, W. Ralph Rexrode, three sisters and six brothers.
She was employed as a clerk at the H.P. Store and since retirement was an active volunteer at Pendleton Nursing Home.
She was a member of the Walnut Street United Methodist Church in Franklin and the United Methodist Women. She was a former member of the Harpers Chapel United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara R. Dolbec of Saratoga, Ca.; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles D. and Patricia M. Rexrode of Stuarts Draft; two brothers, James B. Hammer of Waynesboro and Elmer Cyrus Hammer of Greenwood; four grandchildren, Steve D. Rexrode of Singers Glen, Denise R. Hassett of Waterford, Mi., Angela D. Miller of Franklin and Anthony Scott Dolbec of Saratoga, Ca.; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
A service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. John A. Barnes. Burial will be in the Blue Grass Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Robert and Gene Hammer, John Reynolds, John Wagner, Harold Newman, C. Dice Hammer, Ronnie Gaiewski and Leslie Harper.
Honorary pallbearers will be nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Pendleton Nursing Home, Blue Grass Cemetery or the Pendleton County Rescue Squad.
