Miss Virginia Beverage, age 100, of Monterey, died Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at King’s Daughters Community Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born February 19, 1905 a daughter of the late Isaac Luther and Clara (Seybert) Beverage.
Miss Beverage was a life-long member of Monterey United Methodist Church, where she was a past superintendent of Sunday school. From 1943 to 1946, she was a volunteer for the American Red Cross in the South Pacific Islands. She received a BA degree from Madison College and a Master’s degree from Columbia University. She taught both elementary and high school at locations in Harrisonburg and Highland County. In addition to teaching, she served as principal in the Blue Grass school and retired from the Highland County public school system. She was a member of the Homemakers Club and Delta Kappa Gamma Society.
Miss Beverage was preceded in death by two brothers, Seybert and James Beverage and a sister, Rebecca Mohney.
She is survived by a sister, Lucinda H. Beverage of Monterey; four brothers, W. Nicholas Beverage of Monterey, John H. Beverage of Nashville, TN; Albert J. Beverage of Monterey and Charles B. Beverage of Richmond; a number of nieces and nephews and a special friend, Peggy Hiner of Monterey.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Friday, January 6, 2006 in Monterey Cemetery by the Rev. Mike Sullivan.
There will be no formal visitation or public viewing.
