Truman “Butch” Wine Arey, 57, of Head Waters, died Sunday, March 9, 2003 at Augusta Medical Center. He was born October 5, 1945 at Luray, a son of the late Harry Ed Arey and Evelyn Wine Curry.
On July 21, 1990, he married Joann Daggy.
Mr. Arey was a member of the Mt. Bethel Church of the Brethren and he attended Head Waters Presbyterian Chapel. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a Vietnam Veteran. He retired from Cerro Metal Fabrication Company and was employed at Obaugh Welding. He has also worked at Shickel Corporation.
Mr. Arey was the president of the Stonewall Ruritan Club. He was a member of the Craigsville VFW Post 9480 and a member of the McDowell Volunteer Fire Department.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Phylis Cobb Arey.
He is survived his wife, Joann Arey of Head Waters, a son Paul Anthony Arey and his wife, Teresa of Dayton; a grandson, Bradley Shifflett of Dayton; four brothers, Eddie Arey of Staunton, Mike Arey of Boise, Id.; Gerald Arey and Kevin Arey, both of Buckhannon, W.Va.; a sister, Edwina Arey of Athens, Ga. and a sept-mother, Goldie G. Arey of Luray.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 12, 2003 at the Clover Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery, Fulton School Road, Dayton, by the Rev. William Garber and the Rev. Lester LaPrade, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Bethel Church of the Brethren, 8550 Robinson Road, Dayton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, March 11, 2003 at Obaugh Funeral Home.
