Thomas Carlyle Hevener, 71, died Monday, August 30, 1999 at Springs Nursing Center in Hot Springs.
He was born November 24, 1927 at Monterey, a son of George P. Sr. and Bonnie M. (Rexrode) Hevener.
He was a farmer and a member of Monterey United Methodist Church. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict.
On May 23, 1953, he married Dorothy Puffenbarger, who survives. Surviving in addition to his wife of Monterey are two daughters, Mary Dowdy and Virginia Belle Smith of Monterey; son Thomas E. Hevener of Monterey; step-daughter, Ruth Ann Puffenbarger of Cumberland, Md.; five sisters, Marie Knapp and Mary Beverage of Monterey, Thelma Bussard of Bolar, Rosa Waters of Triangle and Ruby Swecker of Beckley, W.Va.; two brothers, George P. Jr. and Henry Hevener of Monterey; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Stephanie Wilson with burial in Monterey Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jack Beverage, Bill Ruddle, Jerry Varner, Elmer Waybright, Raymond Bussard, Ross Hefner, Jack Warner and David Kiser.
Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Dowdy, Mike Hilbert, John Reid Swecker, Bob and Wayne Beverage, Kenneth Knapp, Steve Bird, Henry James Bird and friends attending the service.
The family will receive friends from 3:30 -5 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home at McDowell and other times at the home.
