The Reverend Haskin Little

The Rev. Haskin V. Little, a Highland County landowner since 1966, rector of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Houston from 1952 to 1977, and chaplain of the Firemen’s and Fire Marshals’ Association of Texas for 47 years, died at his home in Houston, Thursday, June 16, 2000.

Little, 86, was born in Harmony, Minn. and graduated from the University of Virginia and the Virginia Theological Seminary.

In addition to his pastorate in Houston, he served congregations in Lampasas and Galveston, Texas and Tazewell, Va. Long a leader in the Houston Heights community, Little was instrumental in founding Houston Heights Towers and Heights House, both non-profit retirement communities. He also played a leadership role in the development of Camp Allen, the retreat center of Dioceses of Texas.

Little served for many years in the Texas National Guard, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. He was division chaplain of the 36 th Infantry Division and state military chaplain.

He was preceded in death by wife of 57 years, Janet.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; three children, Christopher of Des Moines, Iowa, and McDowell, Va.; Michael of Honolulu, Hawaii; and Jennifer of Lismore, Australia; and by three grandchildren, Timothy, Margaret and Dylan.

Interment of cremains will be held September 16 at the family’s home south of McDowell, Va.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Church of the Good Shepherd, Blue Grass, Va.
