Terri Dudley

November 4, 1961 — September 20, 2021

Terri Lee Dudley, 59, of Monterey passed away Monday, September 20, 2021 at Bath Community Hospital in Hot Springs.

She was born November 4, 1961 in Washington, D.C., a daughter of Jacquelyn (Mehler) and the late William Henry Nottingham. Terri grew up in Bryans Road, Maryland and graduated from Lackey High School in 1979. After graduation, she worked as a typesetter and print technician at Harper Graphics & Automated Graphics.

Terri met Barry Dudley, while in the Bryans Road Fire Department in 1980. They married in 1988 in Charles County Maryland, where they pursued careers and lived until 2015, before moving to central Virginia. Among those careers, Terri was a legal assistant at Charles County Sheriff’s Office; courtroom clerk at Charles County Circuit Court; and worked in the Charles County Sheriff’s Office press information office. She then became owner and operator of her own legal transcription company. Terri was also an active member of Indian Head Fire Department and Bryans Road Fire Department as a Rescue Squad Emergency Medical Technician.

While living in Maryland, Terri and Barry often vacationed in Highland County, where they moved to their dream home in 2019. Terri greatly loved Highland and the people. She and Barry were truly living their retirement dreams. Additionally, Terri will be remembered for her love of horseback riding and enjoyed time spent training dogs.

In addition to her husband, Barry, of Monterey and mother, Jacquelyn Nottinghham; Terri is survived by three brothers, Joe, Donald and Gene Freeman; three sisters, Donna, Cathy and Barbara; as well as her most prized possessions, her three English Shepherds, Cassi, Caramel and Mack.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, September 24, 2021, at McDowell Mennonite Church with pastors Clair and David Heatwole officiating. Burial will follow in Monterey Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Bradley, Rodney and Jared Heatwole, Mark McLaughlin, Joe Shell and Timothy Heatwole.

The family will receive friends one-hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Highland County Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 267, Monterey, Va. 24465.
