Sterling “Horn” Richard Hise, 76, of Hightown, died Friday, May 30. 2003 at his residence.
He was born Jan. 28, 1927 at Hightown, a son of the late Clay Andrew and Viola Washburn Hise.
On Dec. 27, 1951, he married Anna Mae Kathleen Moyers, who survives.
Mr. Hise was a farmer and a logger. He was a member of Hightown United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean conflict, where he was awarded the Purple Heart.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Edith Jolly, Goldie Teti, Vernie Colaw and Hazel Shifflett.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Mae Kathleen, of Hightown; a son, Charles Stephen Hise of Hightown; three sisters, Irene Hise of Warren, Ohio, and Jane Waybright and Louise Hise, both of Monterey; and two brothers, Cllen Hise of College Park, Md. and Edward Hise of Bartow, W.Va.
A funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 1 at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Revs. Richard S. Gibson and Andre Crummett.
Burial was in Hightown Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Bardon Warner, Jerry Shifflett, Leo Gum, Ronnie Moyers, Johnny Tidd, Jason Newlen and Carl Hull.
Honorary pallbearers were friends attending the service.
