Stella Hiner

August 24, 1896 — April 19, 2002

Stella Maloy Hiner, 105, of McDowell, died Friday, April 19, 2002, at the Bridgewater Retirement Community, where she had lived since Aug. 10, 1993.

Mrs. Hiner was born Aug. 24, 1896, in McDowell, and was a daughter of the late Emmet Jackson and Georgia B. Vance Maloy.

She was a homemaker and a member of the McDowell Presbyterian Church and Presbyterian Women of the Church. She attended State Normal School, now James Madison University.

Her husband, Paul Hiner, preceded her in death on October 8, 1955.

She is survived by a son, Dick Hiner of McDowell; two sisters, Ruth Wade of Sunnyside Presbyterian Home, Harrisonburg and Frances Rives of Richmond; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Richard S. Gibson will conduct the funeral at 2 p.m. Sunday at Obaugh Funeral Home. Burial will be in the McKendree Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening at the funeral home.
