Sr. Edward Lowry

MONTEREY, VA Edward "Ed" William Lowry, Sr., 69, of Monterey, went to be with The Lord Saturday, November 30, 2013. He passed away as a result of complications from a stroke. He was born January 25, 1944 in Hightown a son of the late Wilda Mae (Harris) and Herman Lowry. He served in the 185th Infantry, 48th Division of the U.S. Army from 1963 - 1965 in Merced, CA. He worked as a carpenter his whole life, until he was stricken with an illness in 1993. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved sitting on his porch watching the wildlife. He was a jokester and always had a good joke to tell. He shared 48 loving years with his wife, Lora (Nickley) Lowry; two sons, Edward Lowry, Jr., of Monterey and Kevin Lowry and wife, Penny of Fulks Run; two daughters, Shirley Cox and husband, Leland of Hamlin, PA and Tammy Simmons and husband, Mark of Franklin, WV; two grandchildren, Samantha Metz of Dayton and Gary Hoke, Jr. of Hamlin, PA; two great-granddaughters, Kaleigh Rose and Makenzie Lora Hoke; two step-granddaughters, Falica and Amanda Pettit of Fulks Run and three brothers, Berlus and James Lowry, both of Waynesboro and Clinton Lowry of Roanoke. Mr. Lowry is also survived by his special friends, Dave and Ellie Dykes of Richmond and John Metz of Dayton. The family will hold a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to the Edward W. Lowry, Sr. Memorial Fund, c/o The Blue Grass Valley Bank, P.O. Box 516, Monterey, VA 24465.
