Solomon Delton Arbogast, 74, of Mill Gap, died Wednesday, November 19, 1997, at his residence. He was born March 13, 1923 at Back Creek, a son of Cleve and Virgie May (Mick) Arbogast of Cherry Grove, WV.
Mr. Arbogast was a welder mechanic and operated his own shop in Mill Gap for 22 years. He was an avid hunter. He was a Mill gap Ruritan Citizen of the year for service to the community. Mr. Abogast was a member of the Beulah Presbyterian Church and he serviced in the U.S. Army in WWII.
On February 10, 1969, he married Ramona Duncan, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy Ann Arboast and Rodney Myers of Harrisonburg, Connie Jewell and Phillip Shifflett of Harrisonburg and Mary Lee Arbogast and Steve Hicks of Harrisonburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Delton Wayne and Mable Arbogast of McDowell; three sisters, Virginia HIse of Hightown, Elsie Chapman of Millboro and Elizebath Huffman of Millboro; step-daughter and husband, Teresa and Cliff Folks of Poquoson; grandchildren, Randy, Vickie and Cindy Gragg, Eric and Jody Shifflett, Shawn and Sarah Arbogast and David, Mike, D.A. and Felicia Smith; one step-granddaughter, Nikki Folks; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Heather and Lil' Randy Gragg, Marin and Lindsey Simmers and Jacob Arbogast; step-grandchildren, Pam and Carl; step-great-grandchildren, Doug, Sheena and Sarah; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Arbogast was preceded in death by a daughter, Vickie Arbogast; grandson, Kenny Arbogast, brother, Cleveland Delbert Arbogast; sister, Dorothy Jack and step-grandson, Kyle Lee McCarty.
A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m., Saturday, November 22, 1997 at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Bill Moore and Chip Hill. Burial will be in the Green Hill Cemetery.
Active pallbeaers will be Bill Hefner, Jim Hefner, Joe Simmons, Mike Kump, Danny Baldwin and Mac Hill. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the hunting party.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
