Sidney "June" Lowry, Jr.

Sidney “June” Gilmore Lowry, Jr., 92, of the Mill Gap Community in Highland County, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at The Springs Nursing Center.   He was born November 7, 1924 in Mill Gap a son of the late Sidney Gilmore and Mary Kisiah (Page) Lowry.

Mr. Lowry was employed by the United States Postal Service and retired from the Monterey Post Office after fifty plus years of service.  June was a member of the Mill Gap Ruritan Club and Beulah Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder for over fifty years.  Known for his quick wit and good humor, Mr. Lowry will be remembered as a people’s person, devoted husband and father, and will surely be missed by many.

On September 18, 1948, he married Jessie Patterson (Gilmore) Lowry, who preceded him in death on February 15, 2012.  He was also predeceased by his siblings, Rosemary Kathleen Halterman, Ashby Lowry, Robert Lowry and his son-in-law, Harold DeVore.

Surviving family members include his daughters, Karen DeVore of Mill Gap, Page Rowe and husband, Philip of Newton, NC ; his son, Patrick Lowry and wife, Valerie of Mill Gap; grandchildren, Tracey McCray and husband, Michael, Kimberlie Richardson and husband, Clay, Carrie Hibbs and husband, Matthew, Natalie Richardson and husband, Jarrod and Jesse Rowe;  step-granddaughter, Christina Kern and husband, Justin; great-grandchildren, Virginia, Charlotte and Elizabeth Richardson, Jackson “Patrick” Hibbs and Esme Kern; as well as his sister, Hazel “Dorean” Rexrode of Pendleton Manor and his special friend and companion, Michael Armstrong.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m., Sunday, December 18, 2016 at Beulah Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Melissa L. Harmon and Rev. C. William Cox officiating.  Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.

Joe Simmons, Vernon Simmons, Brad Lowry, Allen Lowry, Carson Ralston, Melvin Rexrode, Johnny Rexrode and Virgil Armstrong will serve as active pallbearers.   Honorary pallbearers will be Mill Gap Ruritan Club and his church family.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday at Obaugh Funeral Home.
