BLUE GRASS, VA Shirley Mae Triplett, 70, of Blue Grass passed away Friday, August 2, 2013 at her home. She was born March 20, 1943 in Highland County a daughter of the late William Robert and Nora Lee (Simmons) Gum. Shirley retired from IBM in Manassas. She loved spending time with her family and friends, enjoyed country music, dancing, truck and tractor pulls and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Lee Triplett on November 24, 1995 and two sisters, Hilda Puffenbarger and Velda Hopkins. She will be missed by her large family and numerous friends in Hoadly and Highland County, including a daughter, Brenda Lee Blizzard and husband, David of Fredericksburg; two sons, Tracy Triplett and companion, Sandy; Billy Triplett, Jr. and companion, Patricia, all of Blue Grass; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill Gum of Monterey and Richard Gum of Woodbridge and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m., Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell with the Rev. Andre Crummett officiating. Burial will follow in Monterey Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Ray Gum, Robin Hopkins, Stevie DuBose, Terry Harper, Ricky Gum and Todd Tenhovee. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Mitchell, Carl Simmons, Bill Gum and friends attending the service. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
