Shirley Ann Dudley Folks, 67, of Monterey, died Tuesday, November 11, 2008, at her home, after a sustained period of declining health.
She was born September 20, 1941 at Dooms, a daughter of the late Jesse Lee and Ruby Lee (Glass) Dudley.
On June 17, 1964, she married Carl Folks, who preceded her in death on January 25, 1980. She was also predeceased by a brother, Linwood Dudley and four sisters, Margaret Dudley, Beulah Curry, Elizabeth Snead and Louise MacDonough.
Mrs. Folks was a member of Highland Baptist Church and Highland County Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was past clerk for the town of Monterey. At one time she was part owner and operator of the Maple Restaurant, Shirley’s Laundromat, F& M Market and C&F Plumbing and Heating.
She is survived by a daughter, Carla F. Folks and companion, Kenneth Nelson of Franklin, WV; a grandson, Tyler F. Folks-Nelson of Franklin, WV; a sister, Ethel Davis of Waynesboro; two sisters-in-law, Elma Michael of Stuarts Draft and Judy Haake of Richmond and a brother-in-law Ronald Snead of Waynesboro.
A funeral service will be conducted, 11 a.m., Friday, November 14, 2008 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell with the Rev. Mark Davis officiating. Burial will be in Monterey Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Rexrode, Ronald Snead, Kenneth Nelson, John Lohr, Adam Balin, and David Price.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Continuing Education Fund for Tyler Folks-Nelson, as previously requested by his grandmother, Shirley, at First & Citizens Bank, P.O. Box 529, Monterey, VA 24465.
