Sherry Ann Vess Lowry, 55, of Monterey passed away Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012 at her home.
She was born Nov. 16, 1956 in Clifton Forge, a daughter of Garnet R. Vess of Clifton Forge and the late Eleanor O. Warlitner Vess.
She had worked as a private caregiver. She enjoyed quilting, canning, fishing and was an avid NASCAR fan, her favorite driver being Tony Stewart. She was a former member of Victory Chapel Advent Christian Church.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband of 38 years, Allen G. Lowry Sr., whom she married Aug. 10, 1974; a daughter, Deena Vess of Monterey; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Allen “Glen” Jr. and Tammy Lowry of Warm Springs and Michael E. Lowry and significant other Brandy Mace of Goshen; five granddaughters, Christie V. Wimer and husband Dusty of Mustoe, Cassandra Simmons of Monterey, Emily and Chelsey Lowry, both of Warm Springs and Mackenzie Lowry of Goshen; a great-granddaughter, due in May, “Baby Wimer”; two sisters, Olivia “Punk” Gibson of Lexington and Lisa Vess of Brownsburg; and four brothers, Dalton Vess, Darrell and wife Mary Vess, Rodney Vess and Michael Vess, all of Millboro; mother-in-law, Charlotte Lowry; four sisters-in-law, Betty Kelley, Pearl Clatterbuck, and Brenda and Ruby Hiner; special friends, Bill, Courtney and Little John Wagner; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Tammy Vess; and a niece, Cindy Lotts.
A funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell with the Rev. Lennie Stinnett.
