Sharon Faye (Rexrode) Nelson

Sharon Faye (Rexrode) Nelson, 73, of Staunton, passed away, Sunday, December 18, 2022 at Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville.

She was born in Blue Grass on November 29, 1949, the only child of the late Samuel “Ralph” and Lois Colliene (Newman) Rexrode. On Nov. 22, 1978, she married Jennings Bryan Nelson, who predeceased her on September 11, 1993.

One who loved Christmas, Mrs. Nelson looked forward to seasonal meals and time with family. She enjoyed watching “The Golden Girls” and “I Love Lucy” reruns, as well as talking with friends on the phone. Above all, she will be remembered as a loving and faithful mother, who always worked to ensure her daughter’s needs came above her own.

She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Nelson and husband, Phillip Whitecotton of Weyers Cave; as well as special cousins, Donna Carroll of Mill Gap, Betty Arbaugh of Monterey and Herman Puffenbarger of Blue Grass.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2022 in Blue Grass Cemetery with Rev. Andre Crummett officiating.

Obaugh Funeral Home staff members will receive those wishing to pay respects to Mrs. Nelson throughout the day Tuesday, December 20th, between the hours of 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
