Samuel (Sam) Ruckman, 73, died peacefully November 21st in Asheville, NC.
Sam worked at M. Rosenblatt & Son inc. from 1981 to 2000. He started as a Sr. Hull Outfitting Designer and was shortly promoted to Hull Outfitting Supervisor. Sam was involved in design projects in support of modernization and alteration of U. S. Aircraft Carriers, Nuclear Cruisers and Amphibious Assault Ships.
As an avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing, motorcycles, boating, golf, NASCAR and all ACC sports. Any spare time he had, you would find him enjoying one of these hobbies.
Sam was born in Hightown, Va on November 6, 1946 to the late Elmer and Mary Ruckman. Survived by his sister and brother in law Linda and Oakley Reese, his niece Nanette West and nephew Chris Hooke and four great nieces and nephews.
Sam was loved greatly and will be missed. His was confident in his salvation and is resting now with his Lord and Savior.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, November 30, 2019 at Obaugh Funeral Home, McDowell, Va. Burial will follow in Blue Grass Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Active pallbearers will be Alan Puffenbarger, Randy Genoble, Blane Ruckman, Marlin Rexrode, R.C. Pullin and Henry Harper.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Blue Grass Cemetery, 3042 Blue Grass Valley Road, Blue Grass, Va. 24413.
