Ruth Rebecca Revercomb Hoy, 86, of Deerfield died Saturday, March 16, 2002 at Augusta Medical Center. She was born April 18, 1915 in the Flood Community of Highland County.
She was a daughter of the late John Henderseon and Emma Graham Revercomb.
On October 4, 1937 she married Elmer Lawrence “Teenie” Hoy. He preceded her in death on September 9, 1984. Also preceding her in death were an infant brother, Archie Benjamin Revercomb; and a sister,Ethel Frances Hoover; a brother, John Henderson “Jack” Revercomb; and a nephew, John Arch Revercomb.
Mrs. Hoy was a member of the Deerfield Baptist Church, the D.A.R., and a charter member of the Deerfield Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
She was a postmaster of Deerfield for 35 years and she and her husband were owners and operators of Hoys’ Store in Deerfield from 1939 to 1972.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, John Madison and D’Arlene Tarzian Hoy of Deerfield; a daughter, Rebecca Hoy Stevens, of Midlothian; a sister, Lina Revercomb Whitson, of Staunton; a niece, Susan Hoover Letner, of Sugarland, Texas; two nephews, Hugh Fowler Hoover, of Staunton and William Phillips Revercomb, of Deerfield; a granddaughter and her husband, Deanna Hoy and James Yoxthimer of Prucellville; and three great-grandchildren, John Virgil, Danielle Nicole and Jason Thomas Yoxthimer.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 19, 2002 in the Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton by the Rev. B. Glenn Davis.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell.
