Ruby Josephine Rexrode, age 91, of Franklin, WV, and formerly Hightown, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Pendleton Manor.
She was born May 14, 1925 in Hightown, a daughter of the late Eugene Russell and Effie Susan (Simmons) Rexrode.
A homemaker, Miss Rexrode was a member of the Blue Grass United Methodist Church, the Home Demonstration Club, Highland County Senior Citizens, and the former Blue Grass Community Choir. Ruby will be fondly remembered for her love of cats and sharing her wealth of knowledge of the community.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Dayton, Kenton, and Eugene Rexrode; as well as a niece, Virginia Dare Rexrode.
The last surviving member of her immediate family she is survived by nieces, Betty Grant and Patricia Smith both of Waynesboro, Susan Nelson of Belpre, OH, and Betty Constantine of Altomonte Springs, FL; nephews, Dayton Rexrode of Middle River, MD, Donald Rexrode of Fairfax, and Bob Rexrode of Mt. Solon; a sister-in-law, Ava Rexrode of Harrisonburg; a number of great nieces and nephews also survive.
A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell with the Rev. Andre Crummett officiating. Burial will follow in Union Chapel Cemetery, Blue Grass, VA.
Active Pallbearers include Dayton and Bob Rexrode, Scott and Shawn Smith, Paxton Grant, Larry Bandy, Jack Schooler, Dallas Hinkle, Ray Boakley, and Junior Kimble.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
