Robert "Sonny" Smith

Robert Lee “Sonny” Smith, 61, of Churchville, passed away Friday, May 6. 2011.
He was born July 27, 1949 in Staunton, a son of Joy Mitchell Smith and the late John C. Smith.
He was a 1970 graduate of Highland High School, an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with friends at the “retirement community,” and his pets. Before retirement, he was part owner and operator of Churchville Well Drilling and Pump Service.
He is survived by his mother, Joy Smith of Head Waters; a son, Kenton “Kenner” Smith of Churchville; a daughter and son-in-law, Katie and Chad Townsend of Churchville; two grandchildren, Carson and Kenslee Townsend; two sisters, Jean Higgins of Churchville and Dawn Armstrong of Staunton and his beloved dog, Raven.
A graveside service was conducted 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 10, 2011 in Head Waters Cemetery with the Rev. Beth Pyles officiating.
Pallbearers were Rocky Colaw, Elwood Baer, J.J. Curry, Eddie Blackwell, Woody Eckard and Junior Griffin.
