Robert "Bob" Gum

Robert "Bob" Franklin Gum, 87, of Hightown, died on Friday, February 27, 1998 at Henrico Doctors Hospital, Richmond.

He was born on February 5, 1911 at Hightown, a son of John William and Caddie Elizabeth (Hildebrand) Gum.

On September 23, 1933, he married Opal Wimer, who died on October 19, 1996.

He was a farmer and member of Hightown United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy Warner of Blue Grass and Corena Ritchie of Richmond; one son, R. Leo Gum of Hightown; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Revs. Joe Bradford and Richard Gibson with burial in Hightown Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be  the grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers will be George Smith, George Smith Jr., Harry J. Simmons, Doug Gutshall, Jerry Shifflett, Jacob and Richie Hevener, Ben Stephenson, Rudolph Siron, Sterling Hise, Nick Pugh and Danny Rogers.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 tonight at Obaugh Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Hightown United Methodist Church or the Hightown United Methodist Church Cemetery, Hightown, Va. 24465.
