Robert Neil

Robert E. Neil, 81, of McDowell, died Friday morning, April 26, 1996 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

He was born February 24, 1915 at Mint Springs, a son of William Hamilton and Mary Virginia (Hooke) Neil.

He was a member of McDowell Presbyterian Church. He was a farmer and a logger.

On August 28, 1937, he married Geneva (Simmons) Neil, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Shirley Whitelaw of McDowell; two sons, Robert H. and Joe Neil, both of McDowell; two sisters, Letha Daughtery of Churchville and Charlotte Nye of Augusta, Ga.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Lester LaPrade, with burial in Shumate Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Rick, David, Stuart, Leonard and Danny Neil, Dennis Bradshaw, Donnie Splaun and Don Gibson.

Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
