Richard J. Hevener, 45, of Hightown, died Monday, June 12, 2000 resulting from an automobile accident.
He and his father, Jacob H. Hevener operate the Dividing Waters Farm in Hightown. He was a member of Pisgah Presbyterian Church where he was a deacon and pianist. He was past master of Highland Lodge #110 AF & AM, past District Deputy Grand Master of District #9, and current Chaplin of Highland Lodge #110. He was the current president of the Monterey Lions Club and served on the board of directors for the Highland Farm Bureau and the Highland Mutual Fire Insurance Co.
Surviving are his parents, Jacob H. and Carol Hevener, of Hightown; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Anne Marie and Francisco Vieira, of Hilton Head, S.C. and Nancy Lee and Joe Baillie or Marble Head, Ma.; uncle and aunt, R.W. and Dorothy Hevener, of Hightown; two nephews, Daniel and Joel Vieira; and a niece Allison Thorn.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 15 in the Monterey Cemetery with Masonic Rites. The Revs. C. William Cox and Richard S. Gibson will officiate. The family will receive friends at their residence.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Highland County Rescue Squad, P.I. Box 268, Monterey; Highland Medical Center, P.O. Box 490, Monterey, Va. 24465; or a charity of your choice.
Active pallbearers are Daniel and Joel Vieira, Chris Pohowsky, John Hevener, Ben Stephenson, Steve Hise, Ronnie Moyers, Kyle Almond, Douglas Gutshall and Paul Simmons.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Masonic Lodge, Pisgah Presbyterian Church and the Monterey Lions Club.
