Richard H. Crummett, 72, of Blue Grass, died Sunday, October 3, 1993 at the Veteran's Hospital in Salem.

He had been a resident of the Virginia Veteran's Care in Roanoke since July 17, 1993.

He was born May 14, 1921 at Crabbottom, a son of the late Richard H. and Mary (Hevener) Crummett.

On August 10, 1948, he married Mary Kathryn Hooke, who survives, of Blue Grass.

Mr. Crummett was a member of Blue Grass United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Blue Grass High School. After graduation, he served nine years in the Air Force. He was stationed at Landley Field, San Antonio, Texas, and Antigue, Germany, Philippines and Australia.

He came back to Blue Grass in 1949 and farmed until he became ill. He was active in the Highland Farm Bureau, was a charter member of the Blue Grass Ruritan Club, a member of the VFW and served on the Highland County School Board for five years.

Mr. Crummett also served on the Highland County Electoral Board for a number of years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Andre and Darlene Crummett of Blue Grass; and two granddaughters, Jennifer and Laura Crummett, both of Blue Grass; and a number of cousins.

A service will be conducted 10 a.m. Wednesday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Richard Gibson. Burial will be on the "The Stomp" on Middle Mountain.

Active pallbearers Robert Shuttleworth, Jacob Hevener, Bill Colaw, George Bird, Julian Folks and Dr. Jack Gold.

Honorary pallbearers will be friend attending the service.
