Rebecca Bird

Rebecca "Beckie" Hiner Bird, 96, of Stuarts Draft and formerly Monterey, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2013 at Stuarts Draft Christian Home. She was born September 28, 1916 in Mill Gap a daughter of the late A. W. Early and Martha Theresa (Ryder) Hiner. Mrs. Bird was a homemaker and had worked as a dental assistant at the Medical College of Virginia. She was a lifetime member of Green Hill United Methodist Church. She enjoyed bingo, loved to play the piano and participate in The Fiddle and Bow Club. On March 26, 1940, she married Forrest Hull Bird, who preceded her in death September 8, 1986. She was also predeceased by two brothers, E. Stuart Hiner and Brown Hiner. She is survived by her sister, Laura Jean True of Fairfield Glade, TN; two nieces, Carolyn H. McCray of McDowell and Eleanore H. Rexrode and husband, Elbert of Waynesboro; nephew, Ernest L. Hiner and wife, Peggy of Waynesboro and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m., Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Green Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Erin Geoffrion officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Herb, David, Ernie, Robert and Jacob Lightner, Mike McCray and Robert Stuart Hiner. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
