Ray Mullenax, 89, of Bridgewater and formerly of Highland County, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at Bridgewater Retirement Community.
He was born May 29, 1915 at Blue Grass, a son of the late William Arthur and Harriet Sponaugle Mullenax.
On June 2, 1937, he married Thelma Gertrude Mullenax, who preceded him in death on March 29, 2003. He was also predeceased in death by five brothers Oliver, Howard, William, Floyd and George Mullenax and three sisters, Ethel Rexrode, Stella and Hazel Mullenax.
Mr. Mullenax was a member of Union Chapel United Methodist Church. He retired from VDOT after 31 years of service and he was a farmer in Hightown. He has also worked for the CC Camps.
Mr. Mullenax was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by two daughters, Phyllis M. McKee of Rowan, N.C. and Harriett M. and husband, Fred B. Cox of Mt. Sidney; two sons, Glenn W. Mullenax of Hayes and James M. Mullenax of Staunton; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Donald Long will conduct a funeral service at 11 a.m., Friday, March 4, 2005 at Obaugh Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Union Chapel Cemetery.
Active will be Nathan and David McKee, Seth Smith, Bill and Eugene Mullenax and William Rexrode.
The family will received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and other times at the home of Harriett and Fred Cox, 417 Todd Road, Mt. Sidney.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Chapel Cemetery
