McDOWELL, VA Charles "Ray" Botkin, 71, of McDowell, died Thursday, April 24, 2014 at his home. He was born October 10, 1942 in McDowell, a son of the late Charles William and Mary Shirley (Rexrode) Botkin. Ray retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation. He was a member of McKendree United Methodist Church and McDowell Volunteer Fire Department. Ray was an avid hunter, outdoorsman and enjoyed gardening. His wife, Louise (Hatcher) Botkin, preceded him in death just hours before his passing. He was also predeceased by four brothers, Franklin, Woodrow, Randolph, and Dennis Botkin; three sisters, Lola Armstrong, Grace Grogg and Marie Spain and stepson, Thomas Walton Hatcher. He is survived by two sisters, Jerry Armstrong of Deerfield, Wilma B. Simmons and her husband Larry, of Verona and a number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service honoring both Ray and Louise will be conducted 2 p.m., Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell with the Rev. Dave Boger officiating. Inurnment will follow at McKendree Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home.
