Ralph "Dick" Smith

Ralph “Dick” Vernon Smith, 87, of Sugar Grove, died Saturday, September 20, 2003, at his home.

Mr. Smith was born October 13, 1915 in Sugar Grove and was the late Pinkney and Martha Puffenbarger Smith.

He was a member of the Crummett Run Brethren Church and was a logger for many years. He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the Sugar Grove Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9666.

On October 19, 1946, he married Paulin Rexrode, who survives. Also surviving are two daughter and a step-daughter, Barbara Varner of Monterey, Doris Hull of Doe Hill and Darlene Fulk of Broadway; a sister, Judith Batman of Waynesboro; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephew.

The Revs. Jerry Smith and Ralph Sides will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Tuesday at Crummett Run Brethren Church. Burial will be in the Sugar Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening at Obaugh Funeral Home.
