Rachel Wimer

Rachel Ann (Simmons) Wimer, 65, wife of Jerry Roger Wimer, of New Bern, N.C., went to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, March 31, 2020.

Rachel was born June 10, 1954 in Highland County, daughter of the late Robert and Louise (Simmons) Simmons.

A woman of considerable faith, Mrs. Wimer was a member of The Church of God, New Bern, N.C., where she served as the church Treasurer and will be remembered as always working to promote the church and her God.  In addition to her work with the church and as a home maker, Rachel had been employed as a seamstress for Aileen Sewing Factory in both Monterey and Flint Hill, Virginia plants.   Outside of church and work, Mrs. Wimer enjoyed time spent canning vegetables and jellies, making candies, piecing together beautiful quilts, and most recently playing games at the local senior’s center.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death her brother, Donnie Leo Simmons.

Surviving family members include her beloved husband of 47 years; her half-sister, Rebecca Bibb Mawyer of Ruckersville, VA; several nieces and nephews; as well as her brothers and sisters in Christ.

Obaugh Funeral Home’s staff will receive friends and family wishing to pay their respects on Tuesday, April 7th, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  A graveside service will be conducted in Blue Grass Cemetery with Bishop Melvin McGriff and Rev. Vernon Morris officiating.
