R. Turner Jones, 82, of Greensboro, N.C. formerly of Monterey, died Monday (Feb. 24, 1992) in the Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro.
He was born Feb. 8, 1910 at Monterey and was the son of the late E.B. and Jeanette (Turner) Jones. Mr. Jones was a graduate of Randolph Macon College and the University of Virginia Law School. He practiced law for 53 years in Highland County and was the former Commonwealth Attorney. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Margaret L. Jones of Greensboro; a son and a daughter in law, Edwin T. “Ned” and Ann Jones of Greensboro; two grandsons, Christopher and Bryan Jones of Greensboro; and a sister, Mrs. Allene J. Patteson of Lively.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Edwin, Samuel and Hamill Jones.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday in the Monterey Cemetery by the Rev. Norman Compton and Rev. David Schill.
Active pallbearers will be Judge Willian S. Moffett, Judge Duncan M Byrd, and the board of directors of the First Citizens Bank.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Monterey United Methodist Church, c/o William Niswander, Monterey or to the Mary Field Nursing Home, High Point, N.C.
