Monterey, VA Patricia Sites Marshall Niswander, 87, of Monterey, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2014 at her home. Mrs. Niswander was born in Harrisonburg on November 5, 1927, a daughter of the late Joseph E. and Olivia (Stearn) Sites. She was a graduate of Duke University, where she received a degree in nursing and later a certification in Elementary Education from Madison College. An educator, she retired after 20 years of teaching first and second grades and remedial reading in Highland County Schools. She was a member and served several sessions as an elder in Monterey Presbyterian Church. Additionally, she was member of Monterey Homemakers Club, Sigma Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and a charter member of the Red Hat Society. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harry "Bus" Marshall in 1987; her second husband, William "Bill" M. Niswander in 2009 and two brothers, Michael and Joseph Sites. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, George "Poss" and Sherry Marshall of Staunton; daughter and son-in-law, Kay M. and John Rexrode of Staunton; two grandchildren, Justin Marshall and wife, Courtney of Midlothian and Julia M. Lewis and husband, Jay of Roanoke; six great-grandchildren, Jacob, Aubrey, Asher and Colton Marshall and Emily and Warner Lewis; two sisters, Sheila Garrick of Florida and Diana Alt of Maryland; brother, James Sites of Harrisonburg and sister-in-law, Nancy M. Sites of Upper Tract, WV. A memorial service will be conducted 2p.m., Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Obaugh Funeral Home with the Rev. Melissa Litrel Harmon officiating. Inurnment will be private.
