Orion Olin "Jack" Beverage, 85, passed away, Thursday, May 16, 2024 at his home, after a few years of declining health.
He was born February 25, 1939 on Strait Creek Road, a son of the late Henry Martin and Audrey Lou (Harper) Beverage. On April 13, 1962, he married Thelma Grey Gum, who predeceased him on March 25, 2024.
Jack started his own building construction business which he ran for 36 years, before handing the reigns over to his son, Dean. In 2015, his business expanded to an LLC, which now employs 12. He thought of his employees as family. Prior to starting his business, he worked for Carl Gutshall of Monterey Plumbing and Heating for 16 years. His life away from construction consisted of farm work. Additionally, Jack attended and served Seybert Chapel United Methodist Church many years prior to attending Hiner Church of the Brethren. He will be remembered for his happy attitude and wearing his bucket hats.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, William “Dale” Beverage and sister, Carol Jean (Beverage) Simmons.
He is survived by a son, Douglas “Dean” Beverage and wife, Kathy of Monterey; granddaughter, Lori Nelson and husband, Abraham of Churchville; great-granddaughter, Tenley; and great-grandson, Wick; sister-in-law, Brenda Beverage of McDowell; as well as four nieces, three nephews, and several cousins.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Monday, May 20, 2024 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell with pastor Jeff Fike officiating. Burial will follow in Monterey Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Jack.
Pallbearers will be Steven Beverage, Wilton Simmons, Stuart Simmons, Garland Wimer, Alan Truslow, Junior Bradley and Jeff Wood.
Employees of Beverage Construction will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family would like to express special thanks to Jack’s caregivers for their support, assistance, and genuine care.
