Opal P. Burns, 73, of Burnsville, died July 28, 1998 at Augusta Medical Center.
She was born June 4, 1925 at Monterey, a daughter of Emory and Ada (Moats) Rexrode.
On July 11, 1942, she married Julian H. Burns Sr.,, who preceded her in death January 18, 1996.
Mrs. Burns was a member of the Burnsville Methodist Church and the Burnsville Methodist Womens Club. Prior to retirement, she was a cafeteria worker at Valley Elementary School for 17 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Beverley Ann Keyser of Healing Springs; five sons, Emory Thomas Burns of Staunton, Julian Hackman Burns Jr., of Burnsville, Donald Lee Burnsof Greenville, William Henry Burns of Staunton and Steven Ray Burns of McDowell; two sisters, Anna Rickman of Waynesboror and Avis Bosserman of Middlebrook; three brothers, Curtis Rexrode of Stuarts Draft, Berlie Rexrode of McDowell and Elmer Rexrode of Staunton and 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Her specials friends were, Barbara and DeWitt Lambert, Jewell, Sandy and Caitlin Anderson, Dr. Charles Brooks, Joyce and Dempsie Hevener, Howard and Kathy Bruch and Ritchie Roberts Sr.
A funeral service will be conducted, Driday, July 31 at 2 p.m. in the Burnsville Methodist by the Rev. Robert Ford and Rev. Bass Mitchell. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in the Burnsville Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Dewitt Lambert, Jewell Anderson, Howard Bruch, Joe Tuning, Gary Rexrode, Wesley Roberts and Ritchie Roberts Sr.
Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Obaugh Funeral and other times a Julian and Linda Burns residence in Burnsville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Burnsville Methodist Church, Burnsville, Va. 24487.
