Okie Nipper

August 12, 1918 — May 25, 1998

Okie Alexander Nipper, 79, of Monterey, died Monday, May 25, 1998 at his residence.

He was born August 12, 1918 at Bailer Switch, a son of John Walter and Ada (French) Nipper.

He was a member of the Church of God, an Army veteran of World War II and was a member of Western Augusta Steam and Gas Corp.

On October 10, 1945, he married Elizabeth (Grogg) Nipper, who survives.

Other survivors include one daughter, Linda Nipper, at home; one son, John Nipper, at home; two sisters, Betty Dillon of Richmond, June Hart of Roanoke; and one brother, Elwood Nipper of Roanoke.

He was preceded in death by a daughter and two sisters.

A service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Revs. Roger Young and Charles Turner, with burial in Union Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ezra Halterman, Larry Turner, Marshall Neil, Tommy Dever, Raymond Grogg, Clement Simmons, Gideon Hiner and Robert Helmen.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.
