The funeral for the Rev. Norman A. Compton, 77, of Monterery will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Monterey United Methodist Church.
The Revs. Robert Haley and William Fisher will conduct the service. Burial will be in the Monterey Cemetery.
Mr. Compton died July 15, 1996.
He was born April 13, 1919 in Philadelphia and was a son of the late William and Anne Compton.
He was a member of Monterey United Methodist Church, which was his first charge. Others included Mount Crawford, Winchester, Spottsylvania, McDowell, White's United Methodist, Hot Springs, Redwood and Roanoke. After he retired, he served as magistrate in Highland County for 10 years.
On September 5, 1940, he married Ann Godshalk, who survives.
Survivors include three daughters Diane Bradford, Burke, Rose Broce, Covington, Karen Clifton, Hot Springs; three sons Dennis Compton, Winchester, Carl Compton, Fredericksburg and James Urban, Colorado; three sisters, Mildred Heuscher, Ivyland, Pa., Grace Best, Topsfield, Ma. and Helen Slovac, Cape May Court House, NJ; one brother, Richard Compton of Green Lane, Pa; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at Obaugh Funeral Home.
