Nora Armstrong Simmons, 79, died Thursday, January 21, 1993 at the Shenandoah Nursing Home in Fishersville.
She was born July 29, 1913 in Highland County, a daughter of James Harvey and Janie (Wilson) Armstrong. On May 8, 1927, she married Denver Carlon Simmons, who died December 10, 1967.
She was a member of the Methodist church and attended the Seldom Seen School.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two daughters, Pauline Botkin and Louise Rexrode; and a son Robert Lewis Simmons.
Survivors include two daughters, Shirley T. Armstrong of Charlottesville and Leona S. Crummett of Fort Defiance; a son, Ralph Simmons of Staunton; a sister, Elizabeth Lucy of Richmond; two half-sisters, Florence Massey of Churchville and Marie Steele of Staunton; and 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Obaugh Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve McMillion officiating.
Burial will be in the McKendree Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Nelson Simmons, David Wayne Byrd, Howard Kelley, Richard Botkin, Charles Varner and Alfred O. Armstrong.
