Nicola B. O’Connor, 67, of Waynesboro, died Monday, December 1, 2008 at her home. She was born July 9, 1941 in Staunton, a daughter of Nick and Jayne Beverage of Monterey.
She was a 1963 graduate of Madison College, where she was May Queen of her senior class. She was an active member of the Episcopal Church and loved gardening, reading and traveling. She taught in Newport News for 4 years and for the Department of Defense for 26 years, teaching in Iceland; Okinawa, Japan; Philippines and England.
On May 8, 1970, she married Dennis Patrick O’Connor, who survives.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ryan Patrick O’Connor of Alexandria and Devon Nicholas and Tanya O’Connor of Enola, PA; a granddaughter, Sarah Claire O’Connor; a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara J. and Edward Magilley of Charlotte, NC; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, James C. and Vangie Beverage of Charlottesville; Jerome M. and Gail Beverage of Richmond and William N. Beverage, Jr., of Indianapolis, IN and a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 12 noon, Saturday, December 6, 2008 at Monterey Cemetery with Father Tony Andres officiating.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m., Friday at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell.
