Nellie H. Malcolm, 89, of Roanoke and formerly of McDowell, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
She was born May 17, 1915 in Highland County, a daughter of the late James and Mary Siron Hatcher. She was reared by Roy and Myrtle Obaugh.
Mrs. Malcolm retired from Western State Hospital. She was a member of McDowell United Methodist Church.
On Nov. 11, 1934, she married Clarence William Malcolm, who preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by a son, Clarence “Mack” Malcolm, Jr.; a son-in-law, Malcolm E. Fink and three brothers, Russell and Floyd Hatcher and Ray Hicklin.
She is survived by a daughter, Beverly Fink of Roanoke; five grandchildren, Gallan Malcolm of Doe Hill, Jaunda Holsinger of McDowell, Trenda Varner of Head Waters, Victor Malcolm of Cary, N.C. and Steve Walker of Chesapeaker; and nine great-grandchildren, Brandon and Brian Malcolm, Josh and Kayla Simmons, Trenton and Isaac Varner, Michael Holcomb, Kyle and Kathryn Walker and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 6 at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Dave Boger.
Burial was in the Head Waters Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Steve Walker, Gallan and Victor Malcolm, Steve and Trenton Varner and Josh Simmons.
Honorary pallbearers were friends attending the service.
