Mildred Gutshall

January 12, 1921 — March 2, 1995

Mildred Gray (Bird) Gutshall, 74, of Monterey, died on Thursday afternoon, March 2, 1995 at the Life Care Center, New Market.

She was born on January 12, 1921 at Valley Center, a daughter of Clarence and Wilda (Rexrode) Bird.

On December 25, 1964 she married Ira D. Gutshall Jr., who died on February 12, 1989.

She was a member of Green Hill United Methodist Church, served as charge treasurer for four churches and membership secretary and trustee for Monterey church. She sang in the Monterey choir, was a member of Mountain View EH Clun and the ladies auxiliary of Monterey Volunteer Fire Department. She was vice president, then president and director of Highland Mutual Fire Insurance Co. She retired as county office manager of the agriculture Stabilization and Conservation in 1974 after 30 years of service.

Surviving are two sisters, Mary Catherine Smith of Hightown and Ruth Hamilton of Hot Springs; a brother, Charles Bird of Staunton, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Gutshall is preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers, Hazel and Thelma Gum, Merlyn Gum and Mill and Alden Bird.

A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Monterey United Methodist Church by the Revs. Robert Haley, Jerry Ginn and Norman Compton, with burial in Monterey Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joe Brock, Roy Gutshall, Doug Puffenbarger, George and Dennis Bird, Jack Warner, John Reynolds and Garland Dever.

Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 tonight at Obaugh Funeral Home, McDowell.
