Mary Maxine (Nicholas) Perkins, 95, widow of Richard David Perkins of Staunton, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Brookdale Staunton.
She was born June 19, 1927 in Highland County, a daughter of the late Elmer Harry and Argyle Grace (Arbogast) Nicholas.
Prior to her relocation to Staunton, Maxine resided in Tampa, Fla., where she worked and retired as an administrative assistant for the city. She enjoyed visiting the beach, traveling, and was an avid baseball fan. She will be remembered as being fiercely independent, quick witted and was known for her iron clad memory.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by first husband, Glenn V. Smith; sister, Lorraine “Tiny” Hooke; and step-daughter, Carolyn Howe.
She is survived by four nephews, George W. Hooke, III and wife, Beatrice of Monterey, John W. Hooke and wife, Patricia of Ozark, MO, Randolph T. Hooke and wife, Nancy of Staunton and Jerry L. Hooke and wife, Patricia of Monterey; five great-nephews; as well as three great-great nieces and two great-great nephews.
A graveside funeral will be held 2 p.m., Friday, February 24, 2023 in Blue Grass Cemetery with Rev. Andre Crummett officiating.
Pallbearers will be family and friends in attendance.
