Mary Leake

October 30, 1918 — September 8, 2003

Mary Vaiden McClung Leake, 84, of Arlington, Va. formerly of McDowell, Va. died on September 8, 2003, at her home of 30 years in Arlington.

She was born on October 30, 1918, in Clover Creek, Highland County, a daughter of Louie Edwin and Bessie Gratton Pullin McClung.

Mrs. Leake graduated from McDowell High School, McDowell and Madison College (now James Madison University), Harrisonburg; attended the University of Virginia; and taught in the Highland Schools.

She was a charter member of the Sarah Murray Lewis Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Her husband, Master Sergeant (U.S. Army Retired) Cornell Leake, preceded her in death on September 19, 1981. A sister, Montgomery Reamer McClung Linkous, also preceded her in death on August 17, 2001.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Monte Kaye Leake and Gregg P. Skall of McLean; a daughter and son-in-law, Vicky Frances Leake and Daniel Zapata of Ashburn; a son, Charles McClung Leake of Arlington; two grandchildren, Brandon Cornell Skall and Rachel Zapata; one sister, Frances Louis McClung Buchanan of Arlington; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on September 11, 2003, at the family home place, McClung Farms, Rt. 678, McDowell.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on September 12, 2003, at the Clover Creek Presbyterian Church, Clover Creek by the Rev. Lester LaPrade. Gregg P. Skall will deliver the eulogy.

Interment will follow the service in the Clover Creek Cemetery.

Active pallbearers: Brandon Cornell Skall, Dr. William Snowden Hunter, Gregg P. Skall, Daniel Zapata, David M. Hindman, Benjamin T. Hindman, James Gribson Crummett, and John Vance.

Honorary pallbearers: Donald Leake, Lewis Wilson Shumate, David Booth, Danny Neil and James DePoy.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Clover Creek Cemetery Fund, c/o Sarah Samples, P.O. Box 30, McDowell, Va. 24458.
