MONTEREY, VA Mary Irene Hise, 88, of Monterey, passed away Friday, June 26, 2015 at Envoy of Staunton. She was born December 4, 1926 in Highland County a daughter of the late James and Viola (Edmond) Lowry. A longtime cook, Mrs. Hise had formerly worked at High's Restaurant as well as the Maple Restaurant. She was a loving mother, homemaker and enjoyed time spent with family. On December 30, 1948, she married Clem Richard "Dick" Hise, who preceded her in death on April 29, 1991. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by four grandchildren; son-in-law, Charlie Vandevander; as well as eight siblings. She is survived by five daughters, Margie Bennett and husband, Eston of Circleville, WV; Mary Jane Vandevander of Circleville, WV; Thelma Mae White of Circleville; Patsy Shiflett and husband, Edward of Greenville and Isabelle Bussard of Monterey; two sons, Charles "Richard" Hise and wife, Shirley of Stuarts Draft and David "Sourwood" Hise and companion, Virginia Belle Smith of Monterey; nineteen grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leo Lowry of Augusta County and Bedford Lowry of Staunton. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 30, 2015 in Monterey Cemetery with the Rev. Andre Crummett and the Rev. Mark Davis officiating. Active pallbearers will be Douglas Bussard, Charlie Vandevander, David Vandevander, Richard Bussard, Tim Wimer and Steven Shiflett. Honorary pallbearers will be friends in attendance. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Highland County Rescue Squad, P.O.
