Martha Elizabeth Simmons, 78, died Friday, September 10, 1999 at her home.
She was born January 12, 1921 at Moyers, W.Va., a daughter of Henry Albert and Annie Rachael (Moats) Hoover.
She retired from Western State Hospital in Staunton. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Moyers.
Her first husband, Lynn S. Armstrong, preceded her in death February 14, 1965.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur Harlan Simmons of Catawba; two daughters, Jean Eckard of Sugar Grove, W.Va. and Nancy Hather of Churchville; five sons and daughters-in-law, Dick and Ginny Armstrong of Staunton, Bud and Doris Armstrong of McDowell, Gary and Elizabeth Armstrong of Moyers, Jim and Patsy Armstrong of McDowell and Mike and Melissa Avey of Deerfield; two stepsons, Dennis Simmons of Monterey and Lowell Simmons of Doe Hill; two sisters, Lorean Mitchell of Pennsylvania and Alberta Moran of Staunton; a brother, Delbert Hoover of Dayton; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Jerry Smith and the Rev. Charles W. Townsend. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
Pallbearers will grandsons, William Dudley Jr. and Charles Jake Armstrong.
Honorary pallbearers will be the grandchildren.
