Margie Ellen Simmons, 83, of Monterey, died Friday morning, March 3, 2000 at Oak Health Care Center.
She was born October 19, 1916 at Vanderpool, a daughter of Arthur M. and Lydia Ellen (Jones) Simmons.
She was a member of Monterey Presbyterian Church. She had worked in the public school system as a cafeteria worker and served as a caregiver in the various homes.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin Simmons Sr. and James Simmons; three sisters, Margaret Gum, Emma Botkin and Evelyn Moats; and two nephews, Elwood Simmons and Blair Gum.
She is survived by a sister, Helen Moats of Monterey; a sister-in-law, Crystal Simmons of Bridgewater; 11 nieces and five nephews.
A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday at Monterey Presbyterian Church by the Revs. James W. Moore and C. William Cox, with burial in Monterey Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dale, Melvin Jr. and Nelson Simmons, Virgil and Douglas Moats, Marvin Back, Allan Zimmerman and Timothy Malcolm. Honorary pallbearers will be nieces.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday at Obaugh Funeral Home and other times at the home of Helen Moats.
